Marielle Thomson is from Orkney, an archipelago off the northern most tip of Scotland. She completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at Heriot-Watt’s School of Textiles and Design in the Scottish Borders.
On returning to Orkney she produced her first, and signature, collection, James Sinclair Flora which was inspired by species discovered by her ancestor from the Orkney island of Hoy. Marielle visited the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh to study closely these discoveries which were revitalised into her collection of exquisite printed fabrics.
Now, with her South African fiancé Chris Nourse, Marielle continues to develop her brand in an environment where she has nature as her muse.
Marielle K cultivates a brand with a conscious intention to bestow beauty on our daily lives.
Marielle and her small team continue to design new collections; island living allows their imaginations to travel around the globe in search of anthropological and geo-cultural inspiration.
